Read Matthew 28:16-20

      All authority in all the universe has been given to Jesus.  On the basis of that authority, all of his followers are to take the gospel to all the nations of the earth.  These final instructions given in Galilee certainly indicate a saving mission that goes way beyond Jerusalem and Israel.  We are to teach all that Jesus commanded – nothing Jesus has taught is subject to becoming outdated or no longer applicable.  And Jesus promises his spiritual presence with his people all the time, until the age ends and he returns to the earth. 

      The only response to such an all-encompassing authority, commission, and promise is an all-in commitment to his service.  Even if following Christ means the loss of all you’ve got (Luke 14:33), it will be well worth it “because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus [your] Lord” (Philippians 3:8).
