Read Matthew 25:1-13

The scene is an ancient wedding feast, an elaborate celebration which would take place at the groom’s house.  The parable turns on the delay of the bridegroom.  Five of the virgins (perhaps bridesmaids) were prepared for the delay, and five were not.  As the parable reveals, spiritual readiness is not transferable from one person to another.  The hour is late, and the delay has been long, almost 2,000 years.  The only way to insure that we will be welcomed into wedding feast is live in a state of readiness at all times.  Again, Marantha, “our Lord, come” (1 Cor. 16:22).
